Chapter 130: A Letter From Grandmother

1426words
Sapphire sat beside Alexander and Maxwell later when she had calmed down, Matthew was standing at the door, not too far from Venita whose back was to the wall and opposite Arielle, her mother and Melissa.

'She went into a diabetic coma this morning, she had an argument with Melissa this morning and I think that triggered some pretty traumatic events or something, coupled with her eating disorder," Max explained.

'Wait…What?" Sapphire asked, making the man pause his explanation to listen to her. 'Since when did granny have diabetes?" She asked in confusion.

Arielle, Melissa and Venita also had confused expressions, they didn't know about her condition.

'She had had it for a while now," Max said. 'According to the doctor's report she comes here for medical checkup from time to time, she did a pretty good job of keeping it. Only Matthew right here knew about it and he didn't think of informing us all about it."

They all glanced at Matthew but no one really expected him to say anything, he didn't either.

'Her coma led to death this morning," Max added.

'Can a diabetic coma kill someone in that amount of time? She was alive this morning, went into a coma this morning and died in the afternoon?" Venita asked with a scoff. 'It definitely isn't suspicious." She added that the way she stared at Melissa didn't go unnoticed by Sapphire.

'What did you say to grandmother that triggered her to the extent that she slipped into a coma?" Arielle asked Melissa innocently but got a glare instead.

'It was not our argument that caused that. She had not been taking care of herself, she is clearly a coward who didn't want to be punished for what she did.

And what else would we be talking about if not about this brat?" Melissa said, turning to glare at Sapphire before turning back to Arielle.

'She suddenly swayed like she was dizzy and fell to the ground. I hurried to her and found out she was unconscious only for the doctors to tell me that she had slipped into a coma, then she freaking died!" Melissa yelled in anger and they stared at her in surprise.

'Can I talk to you alone?" Matthew asked when Sapphire was about to leave with Alexander and she squinted her brows at her before nodding.

She linked her arm with Alexander's who stared at her surprise, she just glared at the man and he nodded before following her without a word.

Matthew took her away from the rest of the family's earshot and turned to face her, she was already staring at her with a permanent glare on her face.

'Take this," He said and raised a piece of paper that looked like a letter, she stared at it and then at him suspiciously.

'What is this?" She asked, he cleared his throat and glanced at Alexander who was staring straight at him, he wasn't trying to be subtle about the fact that he didn't like him. 'Say whatever you want to say Matthew, Alexander is staying with me. If you aren't going to talk because of that, I might as well go away," She told him with a serious expression.

'Okay," He finally said, relenting. 'This is a letter to you from grandmother, she told me to give it to you," She said and the fierceness on her face dissolved when she heard that it was from her grandmother. 'She said that it would give you some closure and told me to apologize to you on her behalf since she couldn't do it herself. On behalf of grandmother, Sapphire we are sorry," He said and she collected the note with a shaky hand.

'Did . . ." She said and swallowed before clearing her throat. 'Did she know that she was going to die? Why would she leave a letter?"

'I don't know if she knew but she guessed her death was close and you won't face her till the day she dies. She also wasn't ready to see your face too but no one expected it to be soon. She gave me this letter yesterday in case something happened, she didn't tell me why she thought like that no matter how much I asked her." Matthew explained and Sapphire nodded. 'I hope you can forgive her Sapphire, she regretted her actions till the last moment of her death." He added before walking away, leaving her with Alexander.

He wouldn't have dared to leave her alone if he wasn't there but he had to admit that she was in safe hands, no matter how shady the man is, at least he loves her a lot.

Sapphire immediately moved away from Alexander when Matthew was gone, she saw the hurt flicker in his worried eyes but she ignored it. She squatted and removed the letter from the sealed envelope that her grandmother had tied with ribbon and had a lot of cute words scribbled in cursive all over it. It was obvious that she did it herself.

She unfolded the paper and what caught her eyes first were the small dried circular blotches all over the paper, it was obvious that she cried while writing it, she felt her eyes tingle as she began to read.

'I am doing the best for Sapphire, getting her away from Oliver is the top priority. He wants a woman who he can exploit any day and anytime, a woman who he can manipulate and would gladly kill herself for him with a smile on her face if the worse come to worst and Sapphire is head over heels for that jerk, there is no doubt that he would go to the end of the world for him. He is involved in very dirty business and I am sure that my baby knows nothing about it. The idiot preaches to her day and night never to trust men when they seem shady when he is the shadiest of them all.

The asshole proposed to Sapphire today, he wants her to be her fiancé and she accepted much to my horror. I told Sapphire many times to know how to get her way around that damn man. The man wants to kill my granddaughter. If he wants something tangible from her, he would have told her in the last seven years they had been dating what and who he is involved with. Sapphire had a fight with me today and told me that I don't want her happiness when I told her that Oliver isn't the right man for her.

I had another argument with Sapphire today and it was terrible, everything blew out of proportion and she packed most of her clothes out of the house, she wanted to go and live with that scum. I confronted him about it and he told me that there is nothing I can do about it, he would tell Sapphire what she can and can't do and make her ‘work her damn ass off' in building the company he would get all the glory, the dumb girl won't care anyway as long as I smile at her and tell her I love her.

He said all of that to my face while laughing like a maniac, awfully confident in his words that it hurts to think of my naïve girl with this man. His words came to reality and the Sapphire left the company today with a gummy smile. She told me that he said that he is ready to support her dream, so she would work at his company while they started to create SJAY, she would spend her money and sweat on it. I knew that it was a promise and Sapphire never breaks one of those. She would waste her talent on that worthless man?

NO! I won't allow that, it would only happen over my dead body. Obviously, she is past redeeming through talks, Oliver had brainwashed her so I am going to come up with the smoothest plan ever known to man. I discovered by pure chance what Melissa was up to, she was planning to get some girl to seduce Oliver and make her dump Sapphire, sounds like a good idea to me. Pain is her only way to freedom, freedom from the tight clutch of that monster, so I arrange Heather up with him" Sapphire paused to breathe, she raised her head to get some air and her eyes met Alexander's who was watching her like a hawk.
